Your Expert Guide to Bathroom Products, Tested for UK Homes
Corner bathrooms are the great unsolved puzzle of British housing. Somebody, at some point, decided that the ideal spot for a shower was wedged between a stud wall and a window that opens the wrong way, and generations of homeowners have been squeezing enclosures into that awkward triangle ever since. A quadrant shower enclosure is, … Read more
Turn on the tap in most of England and something invisible is already working against your skin before the water’s even warm. A vitamin C shower filter is a small cartridge, usually fitted inline or built into a new shower head, that uses ascorbic acid to neutralise chlorine and chloramine in your mains water as … Read more
There’s a very specific kind of disappointment that comes with unscrewing your shower filter, popping in a brand-new cartridge, and… nothing changes. The water still smells faintly of a swimming pool. Your hair still feels like straw by Thursday. Somewhere along the line, most of us bought the wrong cartridge, ignored it for eight months … Read more
There’s a very specific kind of betrayal in stepping out of a “relaxing” shower feeling like you’ve just been sandblasted. Tight skin. Squeaky, straw-like hair. Here’s the thing nobody tells you about that “clean” feeling after a shower: for a lot of us, it isn’t clean at all — it’s chemically stripped. If you’ve ever wiped down your shower screen only to watch a fresh crop of white speckles appear by Thursday, you already know what hard water feels like — literally. It’s in your hair (the squeak that never quite rinses out), it’s on your glass door (that permanent frosted look no amount of vinegar seems … Read more
Here’s a slightly uncomfortable fact: every single household in Britain showers in chlorinated water. Not just the ones in “problem” postcodes — all of them. Water companies dose the mains with chlorine because it’s the cheapest, most reliable way to stop bacteria multiplying on the long journey from treatment works to your bathroom, and honestly, … Read more
There’s a particular kind of betrayal that comes from turning on a shower expecting a warm hug and getting a thin, needling drizzle instead. If you’ve ever stood shivering under a dribble that couldn’t wash shampoo out of a doll’s hair, you already understand why the aerated shower head has quietly become one of the … Read more
Here’s an odd little fact British households rarely stop to think about: the average shower is basically a tap running full pelt, aimed directly at your head, for eight minutes straight. A shower head to reduce water bill costs is one of the cheapest, fastest home upgrades you can make — no plumber, no rewiring, … Read more
